Electronics and code are the creative tools of digital technologies liek brushes and paint. This program will introduce kids to basics of circuits and componets and how to read a circuit. They will make simple hands on projects to understand and see it work. After they master the basics, they will have a palete of sofware and circuits that they
Overview of materail taught:
In first couple classes they will get to know the tools and components. They will learn basic electrical theory, how a breadboard works, components in series and parallel, circuit schematic and illustration diagrams
After that they will get their hand on making projects. They will learn and built circuits online using TinkerCad in the class and then work with the Arduino kit.
Some starter projects are as follow and as they progress more fundamentals of working with electronics will be referenced and expanded upon in the later projects.
1.Spaceship interface Project:They will createtheir first Arduino program to control the behavior of some LEDs based on a switch and will learn digital input and output, variables.
2.Mood Cue Project:They will use a servo motor to make a mechanical gauge to point out what sort of mood you are in that day, they will learn about mapping values, servo motors, using built-in libraries
3.Color Mixing lamp:Focus on analog output, mapping values. Using a tri-color led and three photoresistors, they will create a lamp that smoothly changes colors depending on external lighting conditions
Students need to buy their own Aurduino Starter kit ( $40, in amazon) for doing the hands on project. Concepts can be learned with out the kit too, but won't be fun for the kids unless they really see their creatoin work.
